10/28/07 ......Update first pictures of new one handed controller.....

Well here's some of the first picture's of my one handed controller. It's only the top half of the shell but this will give you a idea of what it's going to look like. I just painted the back half tonight so I should have pisture's of that tomarrow. The shell is vacuum formed and then painted black. In the pictures you can see it next to a PS2 controller, that show you how big it is compaired to it. I'll more picture's soon...

06/09/06        May be writing How to manuals

Right now Im getting alot of how-to emails on how I made my portables. So I was thinking of putting out some how- to manuals on them and have them for sale at cafepress.com.  If I did that all you would have to is click on a link and select a book and order it. Then from there it would be shipped to your house from them.  Each book would show you from start to finish on building that portable. It would have complete part list and where to buy them. Also each book would have a how-to on vacuum forming from building the vacuum table to useing it. The books that I will be doing are : Xbox, Dreamcast, Jaguar, Gamecube and PSone. So what do you think about that, let me know and send me a email onw hat book your looking foreward too.

And for everyone that have been emailing me about making them a xbox portable, I dont think you can afford it. My xbox cost about $600 to build it so if that is the case I would have to sell them for about $850 to $900. That would be for parts and labor.  Here's a price break down: xbox used $100,  power supply and ac power pack $120, battery and charger $260 (that battery will power it for 3-4 hrs)screen $50 - 60, misc parts $80 ( plaster for mold, plastic for shell, screws and nuts, wire  and so on) So you see it adds up real fast and that doesn't even count the labor. it takes about 10-15 hours just to make the case ( thats form making the plaster mold to forming the plastic to puting in the screen riser and control parts. The total time from start to finish is about 60 hrs.

People are saying that it looks to hard to play and the buttons are to far away. But if you look my son is having no trouble playing it. Also people are saying that the controls are too high and they should be at the bottom. But if you were to do that and put the buttons on the bottom then the unit would be too top heavy. The way that I made the case is so it would fit in the palm of your hands, that way you would have more control and you wouldn't break you wrist.

                 The Portable Xbox is Done...

Specs:

Xbox v1.1

5" lcd screen

Polymer Li-Ion Battery Module: 14.8v 11Ah (163 Wh) with PCB of 12A limit

60 gig laptop hard drive

Custom vacuum formed case

Earphone jack

External CD-rom drive  (to come later)

This project took about  60 hours to complete from start to finish. My portable Xbox will run off the built in batteries or you can use a ac adapter.   Im not sure about battery time because I just finished it but I will be testing how long it will last when I get the time to play it for that long. The hard drive is a 60 gig seagate laptop drive. The reason I went with a laptop drive is it's small and it runs off 5v. The LCD screen is a PSone screen and I did a LED mod on it. The Battery that I used was a Polymer Li-Ion Battery Module, it  has  14.8v 11Ah (163 Wh) with PCB of 12A limit. Polymer li-ion is the way to go because o f  the light weight  and it can put out all the power you need that other batteries cant. This has been one of the hardest portables that I've done to date and has cost the most to make. This project cost me about $ 600 to make and it was worth it. All I have left to do is to make the external CD-drive. I couldn't fit the cd drive into the portable so I made a external Ide conector so I could hook it up with out taking it a part. The CD-rom will be housed in a case that looks just like the portable it self but smaller.

New Update:

The first XBOX portable is being made as we speak.....  Im trying my hand at making the first one and the only reason that Im doing this is because they say it cant be done. The funny thing about that, thats what they said about the Dreamcast..  The system is only 1 3/4" thick, I'll use a laptop hard drive and it will have a battery pack that clips on the back. It will also have ac power for when you are charging the battery so you can still play. There will also be some other stuff that I'll show when its all done, so it will be a surprise. Here are some pic of it so far:

1/12/06

As of today I will not be taking anymore orders for portables !!!  I will finish up the 3 oders I have ( 2 playstations and 1 dreamcast  you guys  know who you are...) The reason is I dont have enough time to do this and the spare time I do have I dont want to spend it making things for everyone else. I understand that when you order something you want it fast and I understand that. Like I said, I do this as a hobby and I try to make these in a timely matter. But when people send me e-mails" I sent you money were is it" or   "are you done yet" it just takes the fun out of it. To put it simple" I dont need this ".  Sorry that I had to do this but if for some reason I decide to start up orders again I'll post it here.

But on another note Im allmost done with my Dreamcast 2.0. It's a new dreamcast protable with some added things like vmu slot, charging leds and a couple of up grades. The N64 protable is almost done I just need to paint it and put it together. And Im going to start my gamecube portable. I know I've been saying this for a long time but Im now going to start it. Any question fill free to go to the forum and ask...

12/17/05

It's been 2 months sence my last update so I thought this would be a good time to do a update. I've been real busy with my job because of the hollidays, I've haven't been able to work on my portables as much as I would like to. A lot of you have made me put you into a que, but when I contact you your not ready for me at that time. This has happened more then once... The only reason that I make these is 1.) I like to   2.) because you have asked me too. These take up alot of my spare time, so if I email you to see if your ready and you tell me not right now, it just tells me nobuddy cares what it takes to make these. So I start to think why shoud I do this and what am I getting out of this? So for now on if you would like one built you will send the payment first then I'll start building it. And just remember I do build these in my spare time and I try to do it as fast as I can. So if I do start on one for you dont email me everyday asking me are you done yet? I will send you emails as I build it.

So if you want one of the portables built send me a email and tell me what you want and be ready to send your payment in. If and when I ask you to send in the payment and you dont I will go to the next person who emailed me with there order. I will only take on 2 portables at a time, so if you want to be one of the 2 you better email me now..

                                                Thanks for your understanding..........

10/17/05

Update: Im still getting a lot of emails on people wanting to buy my portables. Dont worry if you dont get a reply right away. As I get your email I put it into a queue . That way it's a first come, first served.... Im also trying to finish up my N64 portable and Im stsrting on the gamecube portable. So with working and building these thing's it's taking up a lot of my time... Im going on vacation this week so I hope to get a lot done with these and maybe ship some out hopefuly.  So stay tune and watch for more portable's on the way....
